Covid-19: Westchester Sees Another Decrease In Cases; Breakdown By Community

For the third straight day, Westchester has seen a decrease in newly reported COVID-19 cases as the county recovers from the post-holiday surge of new infections.

The Westchester Department of Health was reporting 334 new COVID-19 cases out of 5,737 tests administered throughout the county on Tuesday, Feb. 2, the day after one of the largest snowstorms the state has seen in years.

As of Wednesday, Feb. 3, the county was monitoring 9,391 active COVID-19 cases, down from more than 10,000 last week.

There have now been 95,642 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Westchester since the pandemic began last year out of more than 1.8 million tested. The 5.3 percent positive infection rate is among the lowest in the Hudson Valley.

New COVID-19-related fatalities were reported in Westchester bringing the total to 2,104 - 1,938 county residents - total deaths since last March.

There were 126,489 COVID-19 tests administered in New York on Feb. 2, according to Cuomo, resulting in 8,082 new cases for a 4.68 percent positive infection rate, down slightly from earlier in the week.

Fifteen COVID-19 patients were admitted into New York hospitals, as the total rose to 8,082 still being treated statewide, down by more than 500 a week ago. There are 1,522 patients in ICU, and 1,003 are currently intubated. There were 160 new COVID-19-related deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

Statewide, there have been 1,433,304 confirmed COVID-19 cases in New York out of 32.61 million tested. There have been 35,631 virus-related deaths reported since the pandemic began.
